Hey, where are you going?

I called Chris yesterday from work to check up on how he and Jonathan were enjoying their Saturday together. He sounded flustered and I asked him what was going on. He said he'd been busy babyproofing like mad - Jonathan suddenly started crawling! Chris was sitting on the floor at the coffee table, working on some class work, when he looked over to where he'd plopped Jonathan down with some toys. He realized he couldn't see him, so he assumed Jonathan had scooted backwards into a corner, which he's been doing for some time now. Just then, he felt a little wet kiss on his toe. Jonathan has crawled forward to get closer to his daddy - and to his most-wanted object, the TV remote.

It's so strange to see him crawl and actually go places. I've been used to him lurching about aimlessly for so long, it just looks weird. We have done some barricading and some more baby proofing, but I'm sure this is just the beginning of Jonathan's new set of adventures.

Stress testing

Our schedules are all over the place these days as I plunge back into work at the hospital. I miss Jonathan and right now it seems as though I don't get to see him very much. I'm so glad he's a home with the nanny during the day so that his surroundings are familiar. I went to L.A. this weekend and Chris stayed home with Jonathan. He was okay for the first day, but that evening he seemed to realize I wasn't coming home. He looked around repeatedly when Chris had him in the bedroom and kept saying "maa maa maa maa." He was happy again the next day when Grandma Kwon came down to spend some time with him. I drove over to Grandma and Grandpa Kwon's house from the airport, so excited to see my baby after two and a half days! He had just woken up and they all met me at the door. Jonathan kind of peered at me and then reached out to be held. We drove home to Charlottesville and he "talked" at me for about half an hour, then made up for lost time by staying up until 10 pm. This is going to be a very hard transition for all of us but hopefully as I get the hang of my new job I will get home sooner and have some wonderful evening times with my family.

Either the stress of all the schedule changes or some more emerging teeth has made Jonathan very bite-y in the last week or two. You have to watch out for lovely soft baby kisses that all of a sudden turn into CHOMPS! One of his favorite times of the day is when Chris comes home from work and changes his clothes. He puts Jonathan on our bed and talks to him, but best of all is when he takes off his belt and hands the non-buckle end to Jonathan. The leather is just the perfect consistency and Jonathan is thrilled to gnaw on it. Does anyone know if they make rawhide teething rings? Otherwise, we might just have to go to the pet store.
